No Clarity on Digital Assessment Model of Mumbai University

It has been one month since the Vice Chancellor of Mumbai University announced that the entire assessment process of answer script will go digital, but no progress has been made in that direction so far.
In less than one month, Mumbai University examinations will start. However, no workshop has been organised to train the teachers and staff about the on-screen assessment. No process has been initiated to conduct the assessment on a large scale.

On-screen assessment involves several steps such as -
- Scanning answer sheets
- Assessing the scanned copies on a computer
- Complying with the set rules
Right now, it is only applicable in the engineering department. In a press conference last year, the Vice-Chancellor of the University announced that digital assessment will be applicable to all the courses from April 2017. The University had also planned to hold workshops for the teachers and faculty members who will have to assess paper as per the on-screen format.
The principal of St Andrew’s College, Bandra - Marie Fernandes said that they are also unsure if the proposed on-screen assessment project is aimed for the current semester. They have not yet heard from anyone of the University about any workshops meant for the teachers. They have not received any circular regarding this new feature. There’s no clarity on the time period either.

The VC also mentioned that new examination centre in Kalina campus of Mumbai University will be equipped with a number of computer sets for the on-screen assessment. But the building is still under construction. There is no hope of completion of the building in the next four to five months.
