Nobel Prize Winner Abhijit Banerjee Supports Two Students with their Education
The Nobel Prize Winner for Economic Science, Abhijit Banerjee is showered with praises and gratitude by two Dehradun students, Aryan Thapa and Aman Dobrya. The students have been pursuing their education under the financial help provided by Banerjee through a scholarship set up by him.
On Monday, Abhijit Banerjee, this year’s Nobel Prize winner in Economics Sciences along with Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer for “their experimental approach in alleviating Global Poverty”. He is among the handful of Indians who have been able to be awarded the Nobel Prize over the years. Two young students from Jogimala, Dehradun have showered their praises and gratitude for his help and his accomplishment.
The Nobel Prize Winner for Economic Sciences, Abhijit Banerjee has been financially supporting the education of two school students in Dehradun. Aryan Thapa and Aman Dobryal, who are pursuing their schooling from Vivekananda School Dehradun.
Through the Kabir Memorial Scholarship, which had been established three years ago, by Abhijit Banerjee in memory of his son who had passed away at an early age, both Aryan and Aman have been able to avail the scholarship to pursue education.
After the proud moment of winning the Nobel Prize, both Aman and Aryan showered praises for Banerjee and showed their gratitude for enabling them to gain an education. Both the students spoke with the media and congratulated Banerjee on winning the Nobel Prize.

Abhijit Banerjee has a long history with Vivekananda School in Dehradun as one of the founding members of the school had been one of his teachers at South Point School in Kolkata, during his childhood. The founding member, Gauri Majumdar had also been Abhijit’s mother’s classmate as well. Another point of connection that Banerjee had with Gauri Majumdar was her husband, who had been Banerjee’s teacher when he was studying at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

These connections with the school had convinced him to do more than just donate money to the school. He had been motivated to support financially challenged students to help them pursue education.
