Odisha Implements IIT & NIT-Like Layout for Engineering Counselling
The State Government of Odisha will be implementing rules similar to IITs and NITs for engineering counselling process of the session 2017.
The State Government of Odisha will be implementing rules similar to IITs and NITs for engineering counselling process of the session 2017. The counselling will be conducted for admission to the B.Tech programmes offered by colleges in the state.
Aditya Padhi, Chief Secretary, informed that the rules similar to central counselling conducted by IITs and NITs will be implemented to make the process more transparent and flowing.

According to new set of guidelines, the final admission list will be announced only after the third phase of counselling has been concluded and the results have been announced. Students will be allowed to change streams and colleges before the announcement of the admission list.
In case, seats remain vacant even after the first two rounds of counselling, students will get another chance and apply for the remaining seats through third round of counselling.
Students will be required to submit Rs.25,000 to the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) authorities to participate in the counselling process. This amount will later be sent to the college or institute where the candidate has taken admission as a part of the admission fee.

Padhi informed that a sliding system similar to the IITs and NITs will also be introduced for this year’s counselling. Sliding system will help it fill up the vacant seats and ensure that seats in engineering don’t get wasted, added Padhi. The system will also ensure that the students are able to get the stream of their preference.
