Opportunity for Stronger Academic Ties Between India & UK: British High Commissioner
- McAllister in the recent visit to India told about new opportunities in academics with scope for building a stronger relationship.
- He discussed some scholarship & study programmes offered by the UK universities to both institutions and individuals.
There are various new opportunities in the field of academics with lots of scope for building a stronger relationship between India and UK, revealed McAllister, the British Deputy High Commissioner Dominic during his recent visit to India.
McAllister visited the Manipal University on 10th May 2017. During his interaction with faculties and students at the university, he spoke in detail about the long association possible between the two countries.

McAllister discussed the relationship between the two countries. He said that there exist different relationships such as people relationship, historical relationship and the educational relationship. All this signifies there is huge scope to build on that relationship to make it stronger. He further shared that this makes him believe in the new opportunities for trade between the two countries and also in the field of academics.
He also pointed that the purpose of the visit of British Prime Minister, Theresa May to India last year was to build a stronger relationship with the country. Her visit to Bengaluru and meeting scheduled with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi was focused on expanding international trade ties and exploring new opportunities
McAllister spoke about few scholarships and study programmes provided by the UK universities to both institutions and individuals. He informed about the Chevening scholarships and fellowships, awarded to outstanding emerging leaders pursuing a one-year Masters at any of the UK university.

He also met Manipal University's senior officials including H S Ballal, the pro-chancellor and H Vinod Bhat, the vice-chancellor and discussed different ways for further collaboration with the universities of UK and catapult centres.
He apprised about the available new opportunities for funding and institutional partnership through the research programme, UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKERI). He hopes that in future Manipal University will also collaborate with other UK institutes like Sheffield and Lancaster.
