Orissa HC: Conduct Second JEE to fill up Vacant B.Tech seats

The Orissa High Court has directed the state government to organise second Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) in order to fill up the large number of seats that remain vacant in B.Tech and MCA programmes for the session 2017-18.
The HC looked into the petition of OPECA (Odisha Private Engineering College Association) and said that the state must conduct a supplementary exam basis which the reserved category seats that remain vacant can be filled.
The decision was given by a bench comprising Chief Justice Vineet Saran on Friday, August 4, 2017. The court has also asked the state government to publish a formal notification for the exam by August 5.
The government has been given a deadline of August 14, 2017, to wrap up the admission process on the basis of this second JEE exam.

According to a report, 94% of the engineering and MCA seats in Odisha remain vacant even after the completion of the first round of counselling. Commenting on the fewer number of admissions, OPECA stated that the drop in admission is due to the negative impact of fake placement issue.
The have also appealed to the government regarding the same. As per the data collected on the basis of admissions, admissions have been completed for as few as 8,151 seats out of a total of 43,000 seats.

There are 88 private and 8 government engineering/ technical institutes in Orissa. Eight of these colleges didn’t get any admissions this time.
