PG Medical and Dental Fees in Karnataka to Rise by 15%
The PG fee for all medical and dental colleges in Karnataka is all set to rise by 15%.The fee hike will apply for both, government quota seats and seats under COMEDK.
The postgraduate fees for dental and medical seats in private colleges in Karnataka will go up to 15% from the next academic session. The hike is expected to be applicable to the government quota as well as the institutional quota seats in private medical colleges.
The concerned department convened a meeting with the government regarding the revised fee structure for PG medical and dental courses. Post the discussion, it was decided that the fee will be increased by 15% for PG dental and medical seats. The foundation also had a presentation during the meeting, and the objective of that was to explain to the government the cost per student, quality of education, infrastructure, and annual expenditure. However, this is just for the PG level, there has been no discussion on undergraduate fees.

There is no consensus among private dental colleges on the issue of fee hike in their institutes as many dental seats are vacant. A few weeks back, the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) revealed that a major chunk of medical seats is vacant due to the high fee of the medical course. From 2014-2018, at least 2027 PG medical seats were not filled. In 2018, 306 seats remained vacant. The main reason behind this is the hefty fee which a lot of students cannot afford. The fee ranges from Rs. 1 crore to Rs.10 crore for PG medical courses in Karnataka. Another major reason is a lack of demand for non-clinical specialisations.
