PMO Denies any Funding Crisis in PU

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) responded to the letter written by Ved Prakash Kamboj, a PU alumni saying that there is no financial issue within the university. Kamboj has written to the PMO saying that there is an expected deficit of Rs.277 crore in the session 2016-17 and that the university was yet to receive grants.

The letter was forwarded to the UCG on October 8, 2016, to study the situation of PU basis which the PMO had replied.

Talking about the letter that was sent to the PMO, V P Kamboj said that he had sent the letter along with the PMO’s reply to the Vice-Chancellor of PU, Arun Kumar Grover. He has earlier stated that he had sent the letter to the PMO to shed light on the financial crisis that the university was facing.

He also mentioned that PU was the only university in India that receives grant from the Central as well as the state governments. He further added that the university has not yet received the grant of the past few years that should be released as soon as possible.

PU Arun Kumar Grover, Vice-Chancellor of PU, had said in a senate meeting held on September 3, 2016, that if the Centre did not release grant according to the revised budget, the university will exhaust its funds and would shut down by January 1, 2017.

The Vice-Chancellor also said that without the grant, there will be no funds left to pay the salaries of the staff members and other employees.
