Prakash Javadekar Presents Supercomputer to IIT Guwahati
Prakash Javadekar also announced that, soon, more than 60 institutes will get similar supercomputers to aid in research work.
Yesterday i.e. 19 th September’ 16, Prakash Javadekar who is the Minister of Human Resources Development presented a supercomputer to Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati . The amazing supercomputer is called ‘Param Ishan’ and is the very first supercomputer of IIT Guwahati. This computer has been gifted by the minister, as it will help make the research activities more credible and easy for the scholars and will also aid in launching new things/initiatives easily.

The HRD Minister told the reporters that it is one of the fastest and most powerful computers and this type of computer is not available in the eastern, southern and north eastern regions of India. He also mentioned that it is one of the precious moments for the country as it is a very big step towards development.
Javadekar called the IITs of the country ‘ Modern Temples of Development’ that will utilise the computer to its maximum potential.
Professor Gautam Biswas who is the Director of IIT Guwahati said that the supercomputer would help the institute a lot, in creating an ecosystem which can attract the correct and viable talent. He revealed that the computer has a capacity or storage of 300 terabytes and has a power of 250 teraflops.

- Civil Engineering Structures
- Nana-block Self-Assemble
- Computational Electromagnetic
- Optimisation
- Computational Fluid Dynamics
- Seismic Data Processing
- Computational Chemistry
