The Government of Uttar Pradesh has assigned the task of assessing the environmental impact due to the expansion and beautification of Yamuna river to Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. As a part of this study, the students will assess the Yamuna riverfront in Mathura and Vrindavan.
Mr. Komal Jain, Professor of Civil Engineering Department, said that the institute would start by carrying out the impact assessment study of Keshi Ghat at Vrindavan. Komal Jain is the principal investigator of the survey. He mentioned that the institute has to carry out an assessment study of the expansion and beautification work of the Keshi Ghat at Vrindavan.

The Chief Minister of UP, Mr. Akhilesh Yadav approved Rs. 17.78 crore for the enlargement and beautification project concerning the Yamuna riverfront in Mathura and Vrindavan. The objective of the government is to transform the area into a religious tourist project.
The government has allotted three months time to IIT-Roorkee. The focus will be laid not only on environment impact but also various other issues like disposal of waste water from drains at various points, hydrological study, and quality of ground water.
