President gives Approval for the Appointment of 5 New IITs Directors
President Pranab Mukherjee has given his nod to HRD Ministry’s proposal for appointing the directors of five new Indian Institutes of Technology.
President Pranab Mukherjee has given his nod to HRD Ministry’s proposal for appointing the directors of five new Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) namely IIT Palakkad, IIT Dharwad, IIT Tirupati, IIT Goa and IIT Bhilai-Durg. The appointment for the post of Director is done for a period of five years.

Following are the names of the Directors appointed for the IITs mentioned above:

A Search Cum Selection Committee was appointed HRD Ministry under the leadership of Minister Prakash Javadekar. After conducting interviews with highly qualified individuals, names were suggested by the committee for the posts of Directors at the newly established IITs. These directors will be leading the academic as well as administrative procedures at the new IITs.
According to the reports, close to 17 candidates were interviewed by the panel. The names shortlisted by the panel will be forwarded to the President for approval as he is the Visitor for approval.

The HRD Ministry had announced in May 2016 that they will be recruiting for the post of Directors at six IITs that have been started recently. Significant experience requirements were set up by the ministry. An official notification was also released regarding the eligibility criteria and other details.
