Punjab Government Shuts Down Chintpurni Medical College
- After failing in fulfilling the norms, the essentiality certificate of Chintpurni Medical College is being withdrawn.
- The students of the institute will be transferred to other state medical colleges and infrastructure will be developed for them.
The government of Punjab has withdrawn essentiality certificate from the Chintpurni Medical College, located in Pathankot (Punjab). The state government has communicated its decision regarding the closure of college to Medical Council of India on November 6, 2017. The state government informed that it would complete the process of shifting the students of Chintpurni Medical College to government colleges within 15 days.
Secretary of Department of Medical Education and Research issued a notice to Chintpurni Medical College confirming the closure and withdrawal of essentiality certificate. The official notice stated that the medical college failed to comply with norms even after issuance of the show-cause notice. The college failed to submit an explanation on its deficiencies and impart requisite clinical expertise and medical education to its students.

The office notice further stated that the medical college had not submitted any convincing reply during the personal hearing. The administration or management of the college has failed to correct the deficiencies within the stipulated deadline.
The government of Punjab has rolled out a plan to shift all the 249 MBBS students of 2014 and 2016 batches of Chintpurni Medical College to three government colleges located in Faridkot, Patiala and Amritsar. The state government has taken the burden of these students and will have to develop infrastructures for these students at these three government colleges. On the other hand, the government must also hire additional faculty for the 249 MBBS students.

Already, the state government has claimed Rs. 10 crore security that Chintpurni Medical College had submitted to MCI. The state government further clarified that it is committed to protecting the career of students.
