Students with international exposure are preferred by recruiters in India, reveals survey. The survey was conducted by International Career and College Counseling (IC3) and it revealed that high schools need to take initiatives to provide counseling and better guidance to students.

IC3 also took into account the perspective of high schools, counselors, universities, industry leaders and students. The survey revealed that Indian students have not been successful in gaining preference in comparison to the overseas students due to lack of right counseling and exposure.

Findings of the survey:

  • 98% of the universities say that extensive information and right counseling at school level is essential to prepare the students for higher education.
  • It was also discovered that 51% of the universities interact with high-school students to enhance engagement and build early relationships, whereas, 41% of the universities said that they visit schools to admit students.
  • In 2017, 31% of the universities have reported a 3% to 9% increase in the number of international applications, whereas, 45% of them feel that the number of applications remains the same.
  • Most of the students in India choose the traditional subjects as ‘safe options’, however, these courses do not bring them at par with the international students.

The survey also reveals that 40% of the students prefer science, mathematics and engineering, 22% students take arts, sports and entertainment, 17% opt for medicine and health, whereas, 1% choose finance and business.
