Restrictions for Students in Mumbai Colleges: Ripped Jeans banned, Time Constraints Increased!

Ripped jeans have been added to the list of clothes that are forbidden on campus including shorts and sleeveless clothes.

Apart from Xavier’s, there are other colleges in the city that have a strict dress code including Wilson College and Girgaum where BMM students are not allowed to wear sleeveless and shorts while the same rule has not been imposed on the students of other departments.
BMM students are upset that such rules are only applicable for them while other students are free to wear what they want. Students wearing ripped jeans from Wilson. A student of St Xavier’s College was stopped by a guard from entering the campus because she was wearing ripped jeans.
Students claim that these restrictions are unreasonable. However, the college administration says that such rules are set to maintain decorum and discipline. Explaining the new addition to the rules, Principal of St Xavier’s, Agnelo Menezes said that sleeveless clothes, shorts and ripped jeans are not just vulgar but also tend to make a mockery of the poor.
Both girls as well as boys, have to follow the dress code but rules are stricter for girls as they also have to face the restrictions on timings. AtVeermata Jijabai Technological Institute, Matunga, girls are asked to leave the campus after 7 pm. A student from the college also informed that they don’t have access to a library or labs on campus.

Apart from these rules, new rules are enforced during fests. AtWilson College, both boys and girls are asked to leave the campus after 6 pm but during fests, girls are asked to leave early while boys can stay till midnight.
