The issue was discussed in a Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) meet on October 25, 2016. Union Minister of Human Resource and Development Prakash Javadekar chaired the meeting and was attended by education ministers of all the states and Union Territories (UTs). The CBSE released the guidelines regarding the issue after the meet.

Amendments to Guidelines on bus attendants and transport for school children were also discussed in the meet. The CBSE has clearly indicated that the school buses must have qualified attendants to take care of the children. It also stressed that each and every school must have a transport manager or coordinator who will ensure the safety of school children. CBSE also mentioned that each school bus must have at least one lady attendant or guard. The physical fitness of driver, as well as their eyesight, should be tested every year.

CBSE has ordered all the school managements to follow the guidelines strictly.
