SPPU to Set Up Research & Incubation Park on Lines of IIT Madras
- SPPU will set up a new Research and Incubation Park on the lines of the premier IIT Madras.

Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has recently received a Rs. 100 crore grant under the RUSA (Rashtriya Ucchatar Shikshan Abhiyan) scheme. The varsity also bagged higher autonomy status from UGC. Now, the premier university is planning to set up Research & Incubation Park on the campus, which will be similar to the Research Park at IIT Madras. The initiative will help faculty and students to develop innovative products and bring them into the market.
Vice-Chancellor of SPPU, Dr. Nitin Karmalkar visited IIT Madras to see the Research Park. He was amazed and astonished to see India’s first university-driven research park. IIT Madras Research Park has outstanding incubation record in rural, social and industrial technologies. SPPU will study the model of IIT Madras Research Park and the same will be incorporated for setting up Incubation & Research Park at SPPU.

Dr. Nitin Karmalkar revealed that a confirmation to set up Incubation and Research Park at SPPU was made during a meeting that took place in the first week of June. Industry leaders, researchers, retired scientists and senior officials of the varsity were present at the meeting to hold a discussion on possibilities and model, he said.
Purpose of Incubation & Research Part at SPPU:
The Incubation & Research Part at SPPU will serve three main purposes: -
- Providing incubation facility and mentoring (guidance) to students and faculty who have come up with innovative ideas or products
- Enabling industries to associate with faculty for projects where industries need to utilise the resources of varsity for research and development projects.
- Providing industry support to deserving faculty and students for developing the product or conducting Research and Development (R&D)

The varsity will set up a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) under Section 8 of Companies Act for running Incubation & Research Park.
