Manan, the member of National Students Union of India (NSUI), pointed that more than half of the students out of 4.5 lakh students who appeared for the exam scored marks in single digits and after re-evaluation of answer scripts these students secured 65 or even more marks. The students paid Rs. 700-1000 for a re-evaluation of answer scripts. Since the mistake was on the university’s part, the students must be advanced to the next year.

H. N. Jagannath Reddy, Registrar of VTU, clarified that there is nothing unusual in the number of students who have failed in the exam and the authorities will call for a meeting and address the students’ concerns. He further added that the number of students who failed in at least one exam is far lesser than what the students are saying. On the other hand, it is no more than the annual average of the university and nothing usual in the number of applications for re-evaluation either.

He indicated that there might be some human or technical error during checking. About 17 percent of total papers come for re-evaluation every year and the number of same even for July semester. He appealed the students to call-off the strike.
