Supreme Court Issues Notice to Maharashtra Govt. Regarding Common Law Entrance Test
The government has to submit the reply within a week.
The Supreme Court ordered the state government of Maharashtra to submit the response regarding the Mumbai’s High Court decision backing the recently introduced common law entrance test. The government has to file the reply within a week. Justices Madan B Lokur and RK Agrawal issued the notice to the government.

Kedar Warad filed the petition in the apex court challenging the Bombay HC’s order of July 5 which mentioned that the state has all the powers to hold common law entrance test for the admissions to all the law colleges, aided or unaided. However, the HC dismissed the plea and stated that the examination was conducted in a legal manner.

The HC too agreed that the state government had to notify the students regarding the pattern and syllabus in advance. However, the entire process of the examination cannot be declared as illegal.
The Maharashtra government issued the notification of entrance exam according to Maharashtra Universities Act and extended to both government and private institutions through an ‘executive order’.
