Switching Fields Easier After Graduating from B-schools: Study

According to a survey conducted by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), most of the b-school graduates are hired for fields in which they have no prior experience. The Alumni Perspectives Survey 2017 also evaluated that 88% of the individuals working in domains with no relevant experience are happy with their job and employer.
The survey was conducted on 15,000 b-school alumni from 1100 business graduate programmes across the globe. Two out of five individuals are working for industries which they had never considered to join, states the survey.

95% of the students surveyed implied that their b-school education had good to outstanding value in the market. According to the survey, the average entry level package offered to b-school graduates is 75,513 USD whereas C-suite executives are paid 440,122 USD.
President and CEO of GMAC, Sangeet Chowfla said that the current changes in economy and the extensive business programmes prepare students for different roles. He also added that b-schools develop the business skills of the students and enhance their flexibility, therefore, students are able to bag better salary packages even with industries for which they have no experience.
The survey states that technology, manufacturing, non-profit and government, health care, utilities and energy are some of the industries that employ MBA undergraduate alumni.

On the other hand, business school post-graduate alumni get jobs with finance, consulting and accounting firms. Sales, logistics, operations and general management are some of the other fields of employment for these students.
