TISS Students Degrees Held Back as a Result of Fee Dues
- As per the TISS officials, students will receive their degrees once they clear all their dues.
- The students are already protesting against the institute’s move to charge Government of India Post- Matric Scholarship, hostel fee, dining fee etc.
Students ofTata Institute of Social Sciencesreceived alist of duesto pay instead of their degrees. Sandeep Gupta,TISS Studentwas to graduate from the Institute on 8 May 2018 but in the place of his LL.M degree, he received a list of dues to be paid to the administration. He was supposed to participate in the convocation ceremony of the institute but many of his batchmates from the LL.M and Masters of Philosophy have found themselves in this situation.
As per the students,TISS feestructure is anyway higher than otherpublic funded institutionsand these dues will make it harder for students from marginalized section to receive education at the institute.

But theTISS administrationsaid the practices adopted by the institute are similar to those of many national and international universities. Students need to pay the fees and clear their due to receive the degree.TISSofficials further added that the institute has no interest in holding back their degree and they will be handed over to the students once outstanding dues are cleared by them.

TISS students are already protesting against the institute’s move to chargeGOI PMS-Government of India Post- Matric Scholarship, hostel fees etc. Students are of the view that hostel and dining charges are inclusive under the GOI-PMS scheme. However, the institute is against this as they have been bearing the expenses for students since many years.
