The Tripura government will soon start providing training to more than 40,000 school teachers to help them to transition to the NCERT curriculum from the next academic session, which begins in April. The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) will be introduced in about 5000 Tripura government-run schools from 2019-2020 for the first time in 43 years as stated by Ratan Lal Nath, Education and Law Minister of Tripura.

To allow teachers to move towards the NCERT curriculum from the current Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) curriculum, the education department will conduct a five-day training programme for the teachers. NCERT experts will train teachers in five phases.

As of now, these teachers teach more than 7 lakh government school students and over 85 percent of these students are taught in Bengali. Books and other relevant study material have to be translated into Bengali for the same.

A notification was also issued by the School Education Department that after a study, it was revealed that there are differences between the course syllabus of TBSE and the national school syllabus developed by NCERT. Many youngsters of Tripura are unable to do well in the national level joint entrance exams and professional competitions as compared to the students and youth of other states who are abiding by the national school curriculum.

The government also took a decision to start schools from 8 in the morning and not at 11 but this decision has been now postponed. A committee will be in place soon for studying the change in school timings and only after that, the next course of action will be decided.
