Tripura Govt. Proposes Stipend and Special Coaching to Attract Students to Science and Maths
To attract school students towards the subjects of Mathematics and Science, the Tripura Government announces a decision to offer the students ₹500 stipend and special coaching for the subjects. Education Minister states, students are afraid of the students, hence the disinterest in the subjects.
In a bid to make the subjects of Science and Mathematics attractive to schools students, the Tripura government has decided that students will be offered a stipend as well as special coaching.
As per a report from the Education Department that there were a total of 32,223 students enrolled in class 11, among which a meagre 11.45% took up science while only 9% of the students selected mathematics as a subject
Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath spoke with the media at Civil Secretariate, where he announced that the students of Class 9 will be offered ₹500 per month. With the help of the stipend and the special coaching for Mathematics and Science, the government hopes to attract the students to the subjects. The Education Minister also stated that the teachers appointed for teaching the special coaches will be offered the ₹500 for every hour.
Referencing records, the Education Minister stated that there is a disinterest in the subjects of Mathematics and Science, due to the fear of these subjects among the students. He stated that a proper study of the subjects will help the students to create a better career path for themselves.

Sources state that the decision is yet to be discussed in the Cabinet Meeting and further approved for implementation. Currently, there are a total of 75,134 students studying in class 9 across the different schools, i.e. Government, Government-aided and Private schools, in Tripura.

Officials from the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) stated that in 2018, the pass percentage of Class 10 students was 59.59%. They added that the many students fared poorly in Mathematics, which resulted in an overall poor pass percentage.
