Two Lakh Undergraduate Seats Vacant in Telangana
Only ten seats are filled in most of the courses
The online process of admissions initiated by the government of Telangana to fill up Undergraduate seats at various colleges across Telangana received an inadequate response. There are 2,10,000 vacant seats out of 3,79,000 seats. So far, four rounds of counselling has been conducted to fill up the seats.
The government did not created awareness among the students regarding online counselling. The students of the rural areas selected only a few colleges as options. As a result, very fewer colleges received more than 70% of admissions. On the other hand, the colleges which relied on direct admissions instead of online admissions received 70% of admissions.

Various colleges are offering a total number of 90 courses across Telangana. Only ten seats are filled in most of the courses. The students who did not get admission in any college were demanding to conduct offline counselling to fill up the vacant seats. The classes for the first year degree courses commenced in June.
This year, the government introduced semester system in the colleges. So, the government has to take up various steps to fill up the vacant seats by the first week of September. The last working day for the first semester is November 14, 2016.

Some of the political leaders criticised the government for not carrying out the admission process in an efficient manner. Students opined that there is no use of conducting another round of counselling as the classes commenced two months back. Instead, the government can give permission for spot admissions.
