UGC Delegation to Visit Calicut University to Recognise SDE Programmes

A delegation from UGC or University Grants Commission will visit Calicut University (CU) from January 11 to 13, 2017, to recognise distance and open learning programmes that are offered by School of Distance Education (SDE), CU.

The visit of UGC Delegation is very crucial for the varsity for reinstating the distance learning programmes. The team will assess the facilities of the School of Distance Education, Calicut University. After assessing the facilities, the team will grant recognition to varsity to conduct distance learning courses. However, the varsity has to satisfy the guidelines of UGC to get recognition.

UGC cancelled the recognition of distance learning courses of SDE, Calicut University in September 2015 as the varsity failed to comply with UGC guidelines. The cancellation of recognition affected thousands of students who were pursuing various courses under SDE. These students were converted to private students as per UGC's order.

The varsity has been trying to get recognition for the SDE for the past one and half years. Finally, all the arrangements have been made to get recognition. The varsity developed facilities as per UGC guidelines. The varsity has made a significant development, i.e., IVRS or Interactive Voice Response System. Faculty rooms and lecture halls have been set up at the new building of SDE.

The varsity has taken all the steps in enhancing facilities to the students. The officials are confident that they will get recognition of the SDE courses and they assured that they would do their best to sustain the recognition.
