The University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided to work with the National Academic Depository (NAD) so as to reduce the circulation of false degrees. This move is also set to help in the ease of verification while providing the degrees as well.

NAD or National Academic Depository is an initiative of the Government of India towards the Digitalisation Movement in India. NAD is a digital platform, in fact, a digital storehouse for different types of Academic documents such as Degrees, Certificates, Mark Sheets and/or diplomas etc. With the start of the initiative, the aim has been to reduce the usage of fake degrees and certificates. Sources state this will help in the verification of documents and act as not only storage of the academic documents, but also as a method for recovery and verification of the documents as well. This will also help the administration of various institutions and Universities to not keep physical documents of such academic records as well, they added.
