UGC-NET is Not Mandatory for PhD Holders, Clarifies DU
Academic Council of Delhi University held a meeting on January 2, 2017, and confirmed that PhD candidates who passed before 2009 are exempted from National Eligibility Test (NET) for recruitment of teachers.
The Academic Council of Delhi University held a meeting on January 2, 2017, and confirmed that PhD candidates who passed before 2009 are exempted from National Eligibility Test (NET) for recruitment of teachers. The council accepted the recommendations made by the sub-committee with some minor changes.
As per the recommendations of sub-committee of DU, the formula for recruitment is 50:30:20. Academic record and research are given 50 marks, teaching carries 20 marks, domain knowledge consists of 10 marks and interview carries 20 marks.

Prof. Hansraj Suman, one of the members of council, revealed that the Academic Council has given due importance to academic record and research and have given a value of 50 marks to it. The council also gave relief to the Ph.D. holders from before 2009 from NET. However, these candidates need to submit two research papers. He further added that Executive Council of DU must approve the decision of Academic Council. The recommendations will come into force only if the Executive Council approves them.

Most of the faculty working at Delhi University are ad-hoc faculty. The varsity did not take any steps to appoint permanent faculty members since 2006. Currently, there are about 70 colleges which are affiliated to Delhi University. It is time to strengthen the quality and quantity of teachers. The overall learning system will be improved only if DU takes step appoint permanent faculty members.
The recent NAAC ratings clearly indicated the quality of education in DU Colleges. Only three colleges have bagged A+ rating in the NAAC assessment.
