University of Kerala to Restore Private Registrations at Undergraduate Level
- The varsity took up the issue following the widespread concerns for discontinuing the private registrations.
- The varsity also decided to set up eight University Institutes of Technology (UITs).
- The varsity will also establish a University of Management (UIM).
The decision to restore private registrations at undergraduate level has been taken by the University of Kerala at a meeting of Syndicate on June 13, 2017. The varsity took up the issue following the widespread concerns for discontinuing the private registrations. Earlier, the varsity gave an exemption to private institutes that were facilitated through the School of Distance Education or SDE.
The varsity facilitated the private registrations during two years when the recognition of School of Distance Education had been withheld by the UGC or University Grants Commission. Due to the earlier decision that was taken by the Syndicate, students who had gained registrations until then did not face any issue and remained unaffected.

The varsity has given the responsibility of studying modalities for reinstating the mode of study to the Syndicate standing committee on affiliations. The Syndicate must submit a report in this regard during the next Syndicate meeting.
The varsity also decided to set up eight University Institutes of Technology (UITs) in the following locations: -
- Kallara
- Tholicode
- Kanjiramkulam
- Azhoor
- Kayamkulam
- Kattakada
- Chariparambu
- Vallakadavu
Besides eight UITs, the varsity will also establish a University of Management (UIM) at Muthukulam.

On June 13, 2017, the varsity also took into consideration the issue of delay in the declaration of results of the examination in degree programmes. The varsity assured that it would declare the fifth and sixth semester results on June 17 and June 26, 2017 respectively. The members of Syndicate pointed that the University of Kerala lagged behind other varsities in the state in the declaration of results.
Various universities across the state have already begun the admission process for PG programmes. However, Kerala University is yet to declare degree results.
