West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences organised their 10th Convocation on March 17th, 2016.It was held in their Belgachia Campus near Shayambazar in Kolkata.
Prof. Purnendu Biswas, the vice-chancellor of the university spoke at length on the university's endeavours and its implementation of various projects like conservation of near-extinct livestock, birds and fishes and improvement of livelihood of poor people. D.Sc degree was conferred on Prof. Dibyendu Nath Maitra and Prof. Amalendu Chakraborty for their contributions to animal husbandry practices and work on drought-resistant breeds of cattle as well as writing textbooks on medical and veterinary therapeutics.
Delivering the convocation address, the chief guest of the occasion Padma Bhushan Dr. Ram Badan Singh, chancellor of Central Agricultural University, Imphal said that the pledges that the graduating students made during this solemn occasion of receiving their hard-earned degrees must keep them charged lifelong to keep the humanity free of hunger and poverty.
In all 97 students were awarded graduation degrees from veterinary and animal sciences, dairy technology,and fishery sciences. Post-graduation and doctoral degrees were awarded to 64 and 18 scholars respectively. Besides, eight students were awarded gold medals for securing highest marks in different categories. Malay Das and Bipasha Tripathy got eight and five medals respectively for their meritorious performance in the university
