As a part to popularize yoga several CBSE affiliated schools in India and across more than 25 countries Yoga subject is being taught, report sources from Government of India to news agencies.

“No doubt it is an effort in the right direction. To train a large number of youth and popularize it in various countries, Yoga has become an integral part of CBSE's physical education and sports activities. This response has come from the Government after the Supreme Court's reply to a petitioner that people 'cannot be forced to do yoga,” said Shripad Yesso Naik, the Minister of State for Ayush.

The petition was filed in the Supreme Court seeking its direction to make Yoga mandatory in schools.

Yoga is being taught under Physical Education Curriculum at senior secondary level among its (CBSE's) nearly 17,000 affiliated schools spread across India and in nearly 27 countries,” said Naik.

Yoga has been included among the 24 disciplines by the CBSE for competition at the national level.

“The outstanding students are to be felicitated with the CBSE Chacha Nehru sports Award. The Government made all the efforts to successfully celebrate the International Yoga Day across the world. It was noted that millions of people actively participated in events successfully organized in 192 member countries of the United Nations on June 21,” he added.
