49 Translation Errors in NEET-UG Tamil Question Paper

  • A Chennai-based NGO that trained students for NEET-UG 2018 figured out 49 translation errors in Tamil question paper.
  • The NGO demanded CBSE award grace marks to all these questions.
49 Translation Errors in NEET-UG Tamil Question Paper

Tech for All, a Chennai-based NGO (Non-Government Organisation), pointed out 49 translation errors in NEET-UG 2018Tamil question paper. The NGO conducted special NEET exam coaching for aspirants belonging to economically backward classes in Tamil Nadu. NEET-UG 2018 was conducted on May 06.

Here are some of the translation errors pointed by NGO representatives in NEET-UG Tamil question paper: -

  • There was a translation error with regard to the name of the animal in question number 75 of NEET-UG Tamil question paper. The exact translation of English word ‘Cheetha’ in Tamil is ‘Siruthai’. Instead of the word ‘Siruthai’, the word ‘Seetha’ appeared in the exam.
  • There was another major translation error in question number 77. The exact translation of the English word ‘multiple allele’ is ‘pal kootu’. Instead of ‘pal kootu’, ‘pala kootu allelgal appeared in the exam.
  • Apart from the above, there were 47 major translation errors in NEET-UG 2018 Tamil question paper.

Founder of Teach for All, Mr. GB Ram Prakash demanded CBSE to provide grace marks to students for all these questions. Every candidate, who took NEET-UG 2018 in the Tamil language must be awarded 196 marks as grace marks, he demanded.

Giving reasons for translation errors in Tamil question paper of NEET, Mr. Prakash pointed that there aren’t any NCERT books in Tamil language, and CBSE failed to standardise the technical words in Tamil leading to 49 translation errors.

However, a disclaimer was printed on NEET-UG Tamil question paper directing the students to refer questions in the English language if there is any ambiguity or inexactness of questions in regional languages.

Mr. Prakash indicated that students can refer English version of questions in case of two or three translation errors. However, there were 49 errors, and students did not find sufficient time to refer both versions.
