Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, has set a new milestone by equating six of the programmes offered with Master’s degree. These programmes are offered in affiliation to Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
The duration of the programmes will be from two to three years. Film wing courses offered by the institute are cinematography, direction & screenplay writing, editing, sound recording & sound design, acting and art direction & production design.
According to AIU, the matter was placed before the Equivalence Committee on January 5. It further informed that the committee has made it clear that all these courses will only be permitted if the candidates clear the eligibility criteria i.e. bachelor degree in any field.
Master’s degree equivalence offered by FTII will enable the institute to attract more students who want to pursue higher education in this field. This will be applicable to students who joined FTII in 2016 and later.
FTII was trying to introduce these courses since 2011. A four-member AIU Committee visited the institute in December 2016 regarding the same and talked to the faculty and students of the institute. Detailed presentations were made by the heads of department and faculty members before the AIU Committee.
Student representatives of the institute also met the committee members and talked about the progress of the institute as the leading film institute in India. Various alumni also attend the presentations including Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Tom Alter, Satish Shah, Amitabh Shukla, Bishwadeep Chatterjee, Siddharth Tatooskar and Mahesh Aney.
