The Academic Council of Nagpur University has taken the decision to disaffiliate 98 affiliated colleges for not following the norms. Even though the move of Academic Council welcomed stiff opposition from the staff members, the varsity has decided to go ahead with its decision.
Vice-Chancellor of Nagpur University, Mr. SP Kane took the decision to disaffiliate the colleges using his special powers under Maharashtra Public Universities Act 2016. The final decision on the proposal is yet to be taken, and according to sources, the final approval is a mere formality.

During the meeting of Academic Council, a section of members pointed out that the varsity is partial towards the non-grant colleges. Four departments of Nagpur University are functioning with a single teacher and the varsity is not in favour of taking a decision on the same, they alleged.
98 colleges, which the Nagpur University will disaffiliate, do not have the required teachers and infrastructure. Most of these colleges are among the list of 250 colleges that were barred from admitting students by the varsity in 2013. Apart from disaffiliation, the varsity has also blacklisted many colleges. At present, 248 affiliated colleges are blacklisted by Nagpur University.

Nagpur University VC stated that 60-70 colleges out of 248 agreed to appoint regular teachers. These colleges have to appoint regular teachers on or before September 03, 2018, to get permission for admitting students.
