To curb paper leaks, the UP Board is set to introduce AI-enabled CCTV cameras for the upcoming board exams. These cameras will monitor strongrooms and exam centres in real-time, sending alerts to officials even during power outages.

AI-based CCTV Cameras to be Installed for UP Board Exams 2026: In a bold move to strengthen exam integrity, the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board (UP Board) has approved the deployment of AI-based CCTV cameras across all examination centres and strongrooms for the 2026 board exams. This will operate seamlessly even during power outages, eliminating any scope for tampering. Under the new plan, each exam centre’s strongroom will be fitted with CCTV cameras integrated with Artificial Intelligence software.
These systems will continuously monitor operations like opening and closing of the strongroom, handling of question paper packets, and examinee movement in restricted zones. Any suspicious or non-compliant behaviour will trigger alerts that are reviewed by a central control room at the Board headquarters in Prayagraj. According to board officials, the AI model will be pre-programmed with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for exam handling.
A standout feature is the mandatory 5-hour power backup requirement for the selected vendors, addressing chronic complaints from remote areas where electricity failures have previously hampered monitoring. This year, the government has allocated a budget of INR 25 crore for technology upgrades, including AI infrastructure, network connectivity, and staff training. Educationists and school administrators have welcomed the move, noting that past question paper leaks have damaged credibility and caused distress among students.
The Board is also establishing a permanent AI monitoring lab at its headquarters. In this facility, live CCTV feeds from all centres will converge, enabling officials to supervise operations continuously and intervene when necessary. Education department sources have suggested that monitoring rooms will be set up at district and state headquarters, where live feeds from all centres will be actively reviewed.
