AIIMS Recruitment 2023: The Union Health Ministry addresses the shortage of faculty at several AIIMS (All India Institutes of Medical Sciences) across India. Additional Secretary, PMSSY, Dr. V K Paul: Member (Health) NITI Aayog; Ministry of Health; and Director, AIIMS identifies the need for centralized recruitment of faculty and non-faculty members. As per the Ministry, about 44% of the faculty positions are vacant in the new 18 AIIMS. AIIMS Rajkot, AIIMS Vijaypur, and AIIMS Gorakhpur have the lowest number of faculty members against the total posts sanctioned by the government.
"The central recruitment system will make the appointment process of faculties and non-faculties more transparent and smooth. Besides, it will also facilitate their easy transfer from one AIIMS to another. Currently, these individual AIIMS recruit their own personnel. It has been seen that talented doctors are reluctant for positions outside their states where they are based or in hard-to-reach areas," stated an official source.
According to the reports, out of a total of 4,026 posts sanctioned by the government, only 2,259 posts in the 18 new AIIMS have been filled. The mInistry then stated that Standing Selection Committee (SSC) has been set up in every new AIIMS and the upper age limit has been raised from 50 to 58 years for Professor and Additional Professor posts. The institutes have got permission to take faculties from government medical institutes and colleges on a deputation basis.
In phase 1 of the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), six new AIIMS other than AIIMS Delhi has been approved which are fully functional i.e, Chhattisgarh (Raipur), Rajasthan (Jodhpur), Uttarakhand (Rishikesh), Madhya Pradesh (Bhopal), Bihar (Patna), and Odisha (Bhubaneswar).
