Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh has announced that it will work towards building up Start-up centres in Greater Noida to encourage entrepreneurship among students. This decision was taken by the university administration at a meeting held at Lucknow campus of AKTU on Monday.

Dr. Vinay Pathak, vice-chancellor of AKTU had informed that the newly set up centres will receive Rs.50 lakh as an initial one-time grant. He also added that AKTU authorities will be setting up innovation and incubation centres which will run by the start-up centres. Also, they are planning to set up excellence centres to accelerate the growth of the existing innovation centres.

AKTU is a central university, with approximately 900 colleges affiliated to it. The university is established in the IET Lucknow campus with its administration offices present across the UP state. It has also a regional office in Noida (Delhi-NCR region). Out of the 900 colleges, almost 168 are located in Gautam Budh Nagar and Ghaziabad alone.

The AKTU affiliated colleges offer undergraduate courses in professional programmes in various fields including Engineering, Computer Sciences, Fashion and Apparel Design, Medical Sciences etc. It also offers postgraduate courses in Computer Applications and Management.

Earlier the University authorities suggested that incumbent and innovation centres shall be built across the state of Uttar Pradesh. This initiative was taken up for the progress of students and for inspiring the rural areas with a view of their betterment. The university has planned to utilise the revenue generated from UPSEE entrance examination every year as funds. This alone turns out to be around Rs. 50-60 crore. These funds will be used by the affiliate colleges for their development and also for setting up new centres in the state.
