AMU Observes 75th Anniversary of Quit India Movement, Takes ‘Sankalp Parva’ Pledge

AMU Observes 75th Anniversary of Quit India Movement, Takes ‘Sankalp Parva’ Pledge

On August 9, 2017, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) took a pledge to mark the 75th Anniversary of Quit India Movement and 70th Independence Day as ‘Sankalp Parva’. Teachers, students and non-teaching staff of AMU took an oath to dedicate themselves to sharing ideas for making a new India and working towards the development of the society. The varsity sees India as prosperous, inclusive and strong in the coming years.

Acting Dean of Faculty of Life Sciences, Prof. Qayyum Husain explained that ‘Quit India Movement’ is also known as ‘August Kranti’. It is an important milestone in the Indian freedom struggle. Indians, under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, led the Quit India Movement with the slogan ‘Do or Die’. Even though Mahatma Gandhi and other leaders were imprisoned by the British during the Quit India Movement, it was the youth of the nation who carried out the movement further and made it a grand success. With the end of the Quit India Movement, India walked towards achieving Independence.

On the other hand, teachers emphasised on removing poverty, corruption, dirt, communalism, casteism and terrorism from the country.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) directed all the varsities and educational institutes to conduct various activities to mark the 70th Independence Day celebrations. The UGC further directed the educational institutes and varsities to take ‘Sankalp Parva’ pledge and forwarded the copy of the same to all the higher learning institutes.
