In a shocking turn of events, Anna University has decided to withdraw from TNEA (Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions), a common admission process for B.Tech admissions in Tamil Nadu. The differences between Anna University and Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE) Tamil Nadu have forced Anna University to withdraw from TNEA 2019.

The issue started when Mangatram Sharma, Chief Secretary of TNEA declared himself to be the coordinator of TNEA, which led to the subsequent submission of resignation by M K Surappa, Vice Chancellor Anna University and Chairman, Tamil Nadu Engineering Selection Committee and Tamil Nadu General Postgraduation Admission Committee. The resignation letter was sent to the Higher Education Department Office. The Technical Education Council will now conduct annual engineering counselling.
