The merit list for the admissions into new IIITs in Andhra Pradesh was released on 3-August-2016. This year, the government established new IIITs in Srikakulam and Ongole. However, the construction of new IIITs will be completed in a year. The classes will commence from 16-August-2016. The students who are selected for IIIT Srikakulam have to report at IIIT Nuzivid. Similarly, the students who are selected for IIIT Ongole have to report at IIIT Idupulapaya. The counseling will commence from 8-August-2016.

The students can access the merit list on the official website. The new IIITs offer a total number of 2,000 seats for the six years integrated engineering course. The cut-offs for the admissions was also published on the official website. The new IIITs received a total number of 34,574 applications. The candidates are selected based on the GPA they have scored in SSC Board exams.

The cut-offs for new IIITs are:-
- The qualifying GPA for OC candidates is 10.1 GPA
- 10 GPA for BC-A, B & D categories
- 9.8 GPA for BC-C & E candidates
- For SC candidates the qualifying GPA is 9.8
- 9.6 GPA for ST candidates
The admissions to the candidates who are in waiting list will be granted if there are any vacant seats left after the counselling. This year, girls secured more seats in IIITs than boys.
