Separate Bill for IIITs: HRD Ministry

The HRD Ministry has initiated to bring “separate bill” for governing the affairs of IIITs. The separate bill will be brought for the IIITs which are being run through Public Private Partnerships (PPP).

The ministry has also taken the decision to increase the intake of foreign students. The curriculum of IIITs will be according to international standards. The establishment of IIIT Secretariat at IIIT Gwalior is also one among the key decisions taken by the ministry. All these decisions were taken on 14-July-2016 by HRD Minister, Javadekar in IIIT Council meet.

The IIITs which are working under PPP will be applying for the status of deemed university. The curriculum of IIITs will be based on the emerging changes and trends in Information Technology.

The IIITs were set up when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the prime minister of India. The IIITs played an important role in bringing drastic changes in the IT sector. India has also become software giant. Javadekar opined that though India has become software giant the IT sector hasn’t come out with popular tools similar to Google, Whats App, and Facebook.

He also mentioned that each IIIT should strive for the excellence in the coming four years. More innovations in the software industry have to come. The new changes will definitely bring changes in the software scenario.
