On 3rd June, Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Education Minister of Assam informed that the state government will grant Rs. 25 crores to the Bodoland University in Kokrajhar for infrastructure development. The minister added that the funds for infrastructure development of the medical college will be released by the month of August this year.
Sarma revealed that all the necessary steps have been taken for the construction work of the University at Kokrajhar and thus the process for the same will soon begin.

He said that an extra budget allotted by the state government to the various colleges under Bodoland University. Also, there are more projects planned for the academic upliftment of all institutes of the Bodoland Territorial Area District (BTAD).
The Education Minister initiated a day's visit to the city of Kokrajhar and Bodoland University. He analysed and reviewed the ongoing work in the both the Institutes. He also interacted with the students of the university.
Hagrama Mohilary, the chief of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Biswajit Daimary, the parliament member of Rajya Sabha and Kampa Borgoyari, the deputy chief of BTP accompanied the minister during his visit. Himanta Sarma also showed up in a party meeting there.

About Bodoland University:
Bodoland University was established in the year 2009 under the Bodoland University Act of the Assam Government with the aim to provide education to the entire lower Assam. The present Bodoland University is an upgradation of the Kokrajhar College under Gauhati University to a state University as per the Act provisions. Professor Hemanta Kumar Baruah is the current Vice-Chancellor of the varsity.
