More than a year ago the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi announced that the central government will be giving Rs. 500 crore for the establishment of the Vikramshila University. The project of setting up the University was supposed to start months ago but till date the government does not even have a place to set up the University. The state government of Bihar has still not provided the central government with a suitable site for the University. The University was decided to be established near Bhagalpur when the Prime Minister announced the package for Bihar.
The Ministry of Human Resources Development recently said that they wrote a letter asking the Bihar Government to provide them with 500 acres of land for the establishment of the Vikramshila University. But the Bihar Government has still not responded to the HRD ministry.
An official of the HRD Ministry told the reporters that the ministry has written a lot of letters asking the state government to give them some suggestions regarding land. He also said that the letter they wrote in the month of June specifically asked the state government to provide a site so the selection committee can finalize it.
An official said that the ministry again wrote a letter in the month of September but they are yet to get a suitable response from the state government. He also said that the attempts made to reach the Bihar Education Minister, Ashok Chowdhury over the phone were also unsuccessful.
