Typically the summer break in most of the CBSE affiliated schools in India are streched between mid of May to mid of June. But this year, the second board exam is scheduled in between those dates, and many schools are now compelled to bring their vacation forward or take it after the exam period is over. School authorities have stated that ensuring proper exam arrangements, teacher invigilation, and evaluation duties will require staff and facilities to remain operational during the holidays.
The principals of several schools in Kolkata and other states have said that they are waiting for detailed guidelines from the CBSE to finalise the revised date sheet. Several institutions are contemplating splitting the vacation into two shorter periods, while others may postpone the vacation until the exams are over. Teachers have similarly worried about the tight scheduling, stating they need rest and planning for the upcoming academic year.

Educational experts believe this change is a part of CBSE's larger approach of decreasing stress caused by exams and giving students more flexibility. However, they acknowledged that the changeover period would create its share of logistical challenges, noting that many schools are balancing exam duties with vacation schedules.
CBSE officials have also urged schools to be flexible and ensure the smooth conduct of the examination. The board will shortly provide detailed timetables and operational guidelines to enable the institutions to make specific arrangements.
