Students of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will now be able to make changes to their name, parents’ name, date of birth, as mentioned in their mark sheet within five years of the declaration of their board exam results.
Earlier, the students only had a year’s time to make necessary corrections in their mark-sheet. The new circular will be applicable to all cases relating class 12th and 10th after the year 2015. The new time limit will also be applicable to all the current cases that are already running in the CBSE headquarters, regional offices and courts. The move will help more than 18,000 schools associated with the board.

CBSE had introduced this new time frame of one year window in 2015 as many students were applying for corrections to their names and other personal details after passing out. Also, the authorities at CBSE felt that students might be using the certificates as a means to get a new identity, with new names and other important details to acquire passports and various other benefits. The old time frame was also making the job difficult for the authorities as a lot of cases were getting piled up with no permanent solution.
