The resolution of the Bar Council of India to restore the age limit for CLAT 2017 got the approval of CLAT Core Committee. A notification was issued in this regard on November 10. The upper age limit for candidates belonging to SC, ST and OBC category will be 22 years.

Chanakya National Law University Registrar, S P Singh said the various problems were faced by the law universities after the upper age cap was removed. The registrar also added that teaching older students is way different from teaching fresh school passouts. Additionally, sometimes huge age difference between students disturbs the harmony of the education environment.

He also mentioned that it often happened that older students who failed to take admission in other professional courses had occupied seats in the law schools. He further added that age cap is very important and when engineering and medical entrances have age cap then CLAT age cap should also be brought back.
