Skills and Entrepreneurship University is soon to be established by the Delhi government. The cabinet has passed the proposal for setting up the university and it will aim at increasing the employability of the country's youth.

Delhi Govt. Skills and Entrepreneurship University

Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi Chief Minister, declared on 14th October 2019, Monday, that his government has decided to establish a job oriented Skills and Entrepreneurship University in the national capital. He told that a bill for the university will be brought in the Delhi Assembly with the approval of the Lieutenant Governor. Kejriwal said he hoped that the university will be running within a year of getting the approval of the LG and passage of the bill in the Assembly.

The polytechnics, Industrial Training Institutions (ITIs), and skill development centres in the national capital will be merged into a Skills and Entrepreneurship University soon in order to increase the employability of the youth. The proposal for the university was cleared in the Delhi cabinet on Monday itself. Kejriwal said that the new university will have the flexibility to adapt to the changing requirements of the market.

Speaking about the idea of setting up a new university, Kejriwal pointed to the rate of unemployment of the country being high and the youth worrying about remaining unemployed despite obtaining degrees like Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Bachelor of Science (B.Sc), Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com), etc. in the formal education system. He said that the primary focus of the university will be towards making the students employable and the university’s performance will be measured in terms of the types of jobs its students get. The whole effort will be directed to ensuring that all the students who graduate from the university get decent jobs.

The initial intake of the Skills and Entrepreneurship University will be 50,000 students who will be enrolled in the regular as well as part-time courses that will be offered by the university in various streams. Students who complete their education of class 10th, class 12th, and graduation will be able to join the university for courses that will have durations ranging from six months to two years. Kejriwal said that the varsity will provide a guarantee for jobs to all the students who graduate from there. He added that all polytechnic institutions, ITIs, and skill centers will be merged into this university.

The Chief Minister further shed more light on the university’s idea and said that it will collaborate with several foreign universities and countries. The most important feature of the university is said to be its “flexibility” that will give it the ability to adapt to the market requirements. This is a great initiative undertaken by the Delhi government to deal with the problem of unemployment of youth in the country.
