Delhi University's Institute of Cyber Security and Law Yet to Receive UGC Nod

In a recent disclosure, it was found that the Institute of Cyber Security and Law at DU (Delhi University) which was proposed earlier this year is yet to begin its functioning with an aim to get cybersecurity professionals and trained legal professionals with knowledge of cyber laws. The University Grants Commission (UGC)'s permission for the same is still awaited. The authorities have written to the UGC several times but no confirmation has been received.

Both Delhi School of Journalism and Institute of Cyber Security and Law had received a go-ahead from the executive council of Delhi University together. DSJ has already begun its five-year integrated course in Hindi and English Journalism.

A resolution to establish an Institute of Cyber Security and Law at DU was passed in July 2017 - which would come under the Faculty of Social Sciences. It will offer one-year PG diploma course in cyber law and security (with a flexibility to finish in two-years).

The course has faced opposition from the teachers and students - because of it being a self-financed one. The former have raised a lot of questions in this regard.

No matter what opposition it received, the Delhi School of Journalism went ahead with the new course. But, according to the rules, it should have started as a department first. But the hurry in which DSJ was started has forced the authorities to think that there is some conspiracy in the process.
