In a goodwill note, the Dibrugarh University today extended a token amount of Rs 2 Lakh to the family of Late Professor Mahendra Nath Borah, an ex-professor in the Department of Assamese, Dibrugarh University. Borah was also the President of Assam Sahitya Sabha.
The gesture was shown in lieu of the extensive contribution of Professor Borah towards the Assamese literature and culture. The token amount from the Vice Chancellor’s Discretionary Fund was handed over to the wife of Professor Borah, Gita Borah, by Professor MN Dutta, Registrar of Dibrugarh University, Prof Karabi Deka Hazarika, School of Humanities and Social Sciences and Pankaj Borthakur, Executive Officer of Dibrugarh University.
It is learned that the family of Prof Borah was in a state of extreme hardship after his demise because of the acute illness of most of his family members. In addition, the family pension which Borah’s family was to receive was also not being given to them due to non-release of pension grant from the state government.
The family of the late professor, on receiving the cheque, extended their heartfelt thanks to the University for appreciating and recognizing the contributions made by Professor Borah.
