The 65th Convocation of IIT Kharagpur witnessed the launch of the Institute’s first-ever Research Park. This is the first of its kind in eastern India which will provide a platform to create an innovative ecosystem.
The IIT Kharagpur 65th convocation ceremony marked the launch of Eastern India's first-ever research park. The IIT-KGP research park will provide a platform to create an innovative ecosystem which is based on the collaborative research between industry and academia.
The first of its kind research park at IIT Kharagpur was inaugurated by HRD Minister Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank. The research park is spread in the area of 10 acres and built at a cost close to Rs.100 crore. It will impart skills in the field of product development, technology transfer, and commercialization and patenting. Equipped with state-of-the-art incubation, the park will be fully dedicated to incubation, research, innovation, and development.
Prof. Sriman Kumar Bhattacharyya, Director IIT Kharagpur informed that the research park at the institute will be dedicated to the nation to improve the research quality and to solve real-world problems and come up with effective solutions.

Prof. Partha Pratim Das, Professor in-Charge of the Research Park said that the IITKGP research park will serve as a huge opportunity for R&D department as they will have access to high-quality talent and resources from IIT KGP faculty, student, alumni, centre of excellence, state-of-the-art-laboratories. In a few years, the research park also aims to conduct advanced academic programmes in partnership with industry experts.
The IITKGP research park will provide a platform to create a healthy, vibrant and innovative ecosystem which will be helpful for both academia and industry. This will help to improve the quality of research in the country.
