Education and Innovation Important for Nation Development: PM Modi

Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi stressed on the importance of education and innovation for the development of nation at a conference on ‘Academic Leadership on Education for Resurgence’ on Saturday, September 29, 2018. Honourable PM of India inaugurated the conference that was attended by Union HRD Minister, Mr. Prakash Javadekar and Vice Chancellors/ Directors of more than 350 universities. Addressing the gathering, Narendra Modi insisted that innovation is significant, as life becomes a burden without it. Therefore, higher learning institutes in India must encourage students towards innovation, he added.

Adding further, PM Modi pointed out that the government had initiated the revitalization of infrastructure and systems in education in order to improve the infrastructure of education. Besides giving classroom knowledge to students in colleges and universities, these institutes must focus on adding the knowledge to the aspirations of India, he stressed.

Recalling the philosophy of Swami Vivekananda, PM Modi indicated that an individual turns out to be a complete human only through wholesome education. Great personalities like Dr. BR Ambedkar, Ram Mohan Lohiya, and Deen Dayal Upadhyay always emphasised on character building over literacy, he added.

The PM also revealed that the government would increase the number of ‘Atal Tinkering Labs’ in schools from 2,000 to 5,000 to encourage children to innovate. It is the responsibility of scholars and students to spread digital literacy and generate awareness of government programmes like Ayushman Bharat, he stressed.

• Education and knowledge are not restricted to books, and students have different sources of knowledge that they need to explore.
• Without innovation, the balanced growth of the individual is not possible, and the purpose of education is to promote balanced growth in every aspect.
• In ancient or old universities like Vikramashila, Nalanda and Takshashila, education, innovation and education were given equal emphasis.
• The government is striving to make educational institutes in India to meet needs at every level.
• The government has been doing its best to invest in education as much as possible.
• HEFA (Higher Education Funding Agency) set up the Indian government has been playing a dominant role in providing financial assistance for forming higher learning institutes.
• The government has decided to raise the budget of the National Higher Education Campaign. The process has already been started, and autonomy to institutes such as IIMs is the first step in this regard.
