Engineering Colleges in Tamil Nadu to Lose Affiliation - Find Out Why!

Constant changing of exam schedules that stretch on for weeks, fest planning and internships, catching students at the last moment has become common in many engineering colleges across Tamil Nadu. Even though Anna University releases a common academic calendar for all the colleges, many colleges are ignoring the same. These colleges are tweaking or rescheduling the academic calendar as per their requirements and feasibility. Therefore, various technical institutes are failing to conduct the examinations as per the schedule.

With an objective to curb the menace of rescheduling the academic calendar, Higher Education Department of the state is going to take a few significant steps to enforce the exam schedule on each of Anna University’s 500 (approximately) affiliated colleges.

An official associated with Higher Education Department revealed that the state government is planning to implement few rules to keep a check on colleges that breach the schedule prescribed by Anna University. According to the new rules, the colleges that breach the academic calendar will lose the affiliation points. Colleges must follow the academic calendar properly so that students can plan activities around their academics without missing on extracurricular activities that are equally important for personality development.

According to sources, around 23 regional officers have conducted a meeting with the principals of various technical institutes to address the issue. It was clarified in the meeting that the colleges will lose seats if they lose affiliation points. However, the Higher Education Department will not send instructions to autonomous colleges. These colleges will only receive guidelines from the board.
