The signs of unemployment and youth’s carving to securing a government job is clearly visible in Madhya Pradesh. Recently, a notification was issued for the recruitment of sweepers, drivers, peons and security guard in Madhya Pradesh High Court and Zilla Courts. Usually, people who studied Class 8 – 10 apply for these jobs. The recruitment authority was stunned after witnessing that MBA and Engineering graduates applied to these jobs. The monthly pay for these jobs is Rs. 12,000.
The deadline to register for these jobs closed on December 31, 2017. Over 738 posts vacant and 2 lakh candidates have submitted the application for these jobs. Among the applicants, there are degree holders, MBA and engineering graduates. The highest number of applications was submitted in Gwalior, where 70,000 candidates applied for 16 posts. The state government minted over Rs. 1.2 crores only from Gwalior in the form of application fees.

It is difficult for the selection authorities to shortlist the candidates for the posts. The recruitment authority has constituted twelve panels to conduct the interviews until February 18, 2018.
In Morena district of MP, 5,300 candidates applied for 22 posts in four jobs. The authorities faced difficulty in conducting interviews due to the excessive crowd for the limited number of jobs.
At Barwani, 1,500 applications received for just five posts. Among the applicants, there were civil engineering graduates too.
Even though the recruitment authority received applications from MBA and engineering graduates, only those who have studied until Class 8 have been shortlisted for the interview.

It is time for the government to generate adequate employment opportunities for the graduates. Most of the graduates are forced to land in jobs that are either irrelevant to their educational qualification or less than their potential.
